Why Do We Sin?

Monday, October 19, 2009

8th grade should respond to the following questions:

Our culture often denies the reality of sin, but at times (after suicide bombings or mass murders) they are forced to admit the reality of evil. When our culture does acknowledge evil, what do they blame it on?
Now, read James 4:1-3 and explain why we sin. How does this compare to what our culture says about sin or evil?

Mostly they blame the crime on the person who did it if it is something that bad. But when a teen or child acts a certain way they blame it on the circumstances surronding them and the dont come to the conclusion that they are choosing to act that way.
James says that we do these things because we do not have. He also says that we ask and dont recieve because we ask with wrong motives that is for us and not for others. He also says we sin because of our on pleasures that we do because we want something we dont have.(like the saying "the grass is ALWAYS greener on the other side).:(

I know that in Gods eyes, sin is sin, so something as big as murder, is just the same as telling a little lie. God Sees everything. Guitar freak has a really great point.

our culture blames the mass murdurs on like taylor said how they grew up. they also call them relilgious fanatics. another excuse comonly used is that they were crazy. they will not acknoldge sin because then that would mean that there has to be a diety to say whats sin and whats righteous

I like what kenzo said about how in Gods eyes sin is sin. All sin is wrong and if you just lie, or you rob a bank in Gods eyes they are both the same. Our world doesnt see the wrong in sin. They think its just a choice. Weither we make the wrong and right decision is up to us. Its our choice to listen to the Holy Spirit inside of us. People say that the chusch says that everyone is born into sin. Yes, this is true even a new born babby is a sinner. I've kinda gotten of topic, but i think you see the picture. Sin is sin and some people, even christains, tell themselves that God measures sin. But the truth of the matter is, can you guess?, sin is sin.

I think the question here actually assumes too much.

Our culture doesn't view evil in connection with sin. In fact, sin is a near obsolete concept from the secular standpoint.

We Christians understand that sin is a violation of God's appropriate (and just standard); our culture has no frame of reference for a God who is offended over moral violations of His standards.

Post-modernism, moral relativism, and multi-culturalism has left our culture unable to think, let alone speak, coherently of evil. Was 9/11 an evil act (in the sense that it was objectively evil) or is calling terrorism evil merely an expression of a certain cultural perspective (like those who say 9/11 was the U.S.A.'s own fault) would have us believe?

We Christians can say definitively "yes" when asked if terrorist acts like 9/11 are evil. But a culture with no moral absolutes has no idea how to evaluate the morality of any action, at least not beyond "I didn't like this."

The dwindling few who still retain a concept of evil in connection with sin very rarely see sin as a condition of human nature (as the Bible teaches); instead they see sin as specific acts that are wrong.

The difference is that Christians see sin as part of a fallen nature that that expresses itself in acts of rebellion against God. I think our neighbors might still see some actions as wrong - and thus sinful in a sense - but see the sinful act as a mistake or something inconsistent with their inner goodness.

So, Carolina, you are saying that the question is assuming to much, and people sometimes believe that they are overall good, but they just did that one thing wrong, and that Christians no that everyone is very sinful? If you are, I Completely agree with you(: Very good point(:

i think we sin because it is are nature and we have always sinned. In the book Confessios Augustine says that even a little sweet "inocent" baby is sinful they become jelous when the other is getting feed when that baby has just eaten. Even though they might not be able to verbly shout out that they are mad or jelous it is still in them. Also in the Bible it says that follishness is bound up in a childs heart. So all the sin of a little baby is just waiting to erruput like a volcano and it will.

I agree with Guitar Freak. I think people sin because it is our nature & ever since the fall we will always sin. I also like what Kenzo said about in the Lords eyes lying is just as bad as ANY other crime. if you are a minor and commit a crime you don't get the same penalty as someone who is over the age 18 . They blame it on way you were raised or the people you hang around and even who your parents are.

I like how guitar freak refered to a book to show her proof. Wait-to-go! You will need that when you get older!
