Limericks at Erasmus' Expense

In response to reading Luther's Bondage of the Will and studying Luther's talent for the witty insult, my 8th grade students wrote the following limericks:

*class winner*
Erasmus is an old turd;
No one listens to his word.
Erasmus is a pacifist,
All he cares about is lack-a-fist,
Everything he says is absurd.

Erasmus was a rhetorician;
Though clearly not a logician.
His words are strange,
His mind has no range,
He is even beat by the tricks of the magician.

Erasmus was followed by many;
Luther thought they weren't worth a penny.
Erasmus did not think they should fight,
Luther thought he was not right,
Luther wanted to throw Erasmus on his fanny.
